Letter from Dr. V. Mohini Giri -- Raising Funds to Empower India's Widows

Dear Grief and Renewal.Com Readers,

We have to empower 16,000 widows of Vrindavan. We look forward to your sensitized commitment for helping the mothers of Vrindavan. The Guild of Service is on a major fund raising exercise to support the cause of widows in Vrindavan and Varanasi, sisters of Jammu & Kashmir, traumatized victims of Godhra and victims of violence at Sawai Madhopur.

On the 2nd of February 2003, Pandit Jasraj in his magnanimity is giving a charity performance for us to create a home for the mothers. For us it is a great opportunity to collaborate together to ensure that the mothers of Vrindavan live out the evenings of their lives in the dignity that they deserve.

Dada Tapan Kanti Baidya, renowned classical singer of Bangladesh has graciously agreed to give a charity chamber performance at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on Saturday, the 1st February, 2003 at 7 p.m.

Immediate support is needed for:

• In Vrindavan, a home for 500 women under difficult circumstances is to be constructed on three acres of land. Land has already been acquired with a great deal of effort.

• In Jammu and Kashmir, a home for women bereft of economic, social and emotional support. The home is providing trauma counseling and vocational training.

• A home for victims of Gujarat carnage functioning as a care centre for traumatized women in Godhra, Gujarat.

• In Sawai Madhopur, a short stay home to be constructed for victims of domestic and social violence as well as a vocational center for women.

Support can be in various ways:

• Sponsoring construction of individual rooms named after the donor Rs. 50,000/-

• Donation for the lifetime care of a needy widow. Rs. 10,000/- per annum

• Adopting a grand mother, thus sponsoring her care. Rs. 1,000/- per month

• Sponsoring for vocational training schemes like auxiliary nurses, tailoring and garment production, textile printing, etc. Rs. 5,000/- per annum

• Sponsoring towards empowerment through legal literacy Rs. 2,000/- per program

• Donation in kind, in the nature of hard and soft furnishings, building material, computers, refrigerators, drinking water machine.

Support of the Guild of Service Fund Raising Programmes could be in the nature of advertising support for the informative and widely disseminated souvenir being published.
